What are the Best Teen Movies?

Some good Teen Movies were made in the 1980’s. Movies such as “Just One of the Guys” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” portray typical teen life without being too outlandish. Many teens, even today, can relate to the lives of the teens that are in these movies, and many teens have encountered the same or similar problems depicted in the movies.

Although many of these movies are low budget, they do a great job at relating to the needs and lives of teen viewers. For instance, “Just One of the Guys” tells the story of a young woman who longs to gain a summer internship writing for a newspaper, but feels that she didn’t earn it just because she is female. This is a problem that is all too real, intriguing many teen girls.

If teenagers from any generating want to see a film that directly relates to common problems, they should explore the many movies filmed during this decade in order to find something entertaining that can be related to.

Eddie Redmayne Cast As Newt Scamander in ‘Fantastic Beasts’

Warner Bros. announced on Monday that Eddie Redmayne has been cast as the main character Newt Scamander in the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Redmayne had won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2014’s The Theory of Everything which had been about Stephen Hawking as a young man.

Fantastic Beasts is a spin-off of the Harry Potter series, and J.K. Rowling will be handling the screenwriting duties. It is not, however a prequel, since the first movie, at least will be set in New York during the 1920’s — well before most of the cast in the Harry Potter books were even born.

The character Newt Scamander is a magizoologist which is the magical version of a wildlife biologist. He therefore studied dragons and unicorns rather than big cats or gorillas. He is also the author of the titular Fantastic Beasts, an influential text on various magical creatures. Rowling had published Fantastic Beasts in 2001 and donated much of the proceeds to charity.

Scamander was born in 1897 and graduated from Hogwarts in 1916. He began his career working for the Ministry of Magic’s Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He published the first edition of Fantastic Beasts in 1927. Given that, it is probably safe to say that the first movie will cover the beginnings of his research on magical creatures.

David Yates, who had directed the last four Harry Potter movies, will be directing Fantastic Beasts. Sam Tabar likes that move quite a bit after reading about it on the Examiner. David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram, who had all worked on the original series, will be producing Fantastic Beasts. It is expected to premiere in November, 2016.

Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Blade Runner Sequel

Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. However, this upcoming Blade Runner follow up will not be directed by Ridley Scott, himself. Instead, the film will be helmed by Dennis Villeneuve. Even though Ridley Scott is not directing the upcoming Blade Runner sequel and is instead focusing on his franchise, Prometheus, he has been developing the screenplay along with some of the other original workers on the first movie.

Given Ryan Gosling’s habit of working with lesser known filmmakers who bring unique visions to the screen, this might actually be up his alley. Ryan Gosling is likely to play a lead role in the film. There is no telling whether he is going to be a protagonist or one of the antagonist. Harrison Ford is going to reprise his role as Deckard.

There was rumors that the main protagonist is going to be female. Ryan Gosling’s potential joining of this cast does not make it any less likely. Executive Dan Newlin (Newlin’s Yelp) joked that it is just as likely that Ryan Gosling is going to play a supporting role to the female lead.

Tron 3 Gets a Director

Are you ready for another lightcycle ride onto the Grid? You may get to take one as early as next year according to rumors that say Tron 3 will begin filming later this year. In a story that can be seen here it is being reported that even though Disney has not officially given the film a green light, the director of Tron 2, Joseph Kosinski, has already been named to direct the sequel.

Kosinski says that his ideas for the third film will take it in a darker direction noted wikinvest.com. He claims that he will pick up right where the second movie left off and be a continuation of the story. The same sources claim that Garret Hedlund will return to star in this one as well, and, if it is a continuation, Bruce Boxlightner and Olivia Wilde will likely be in it too. It only remains to be seen if this installment will fare better than its predecessor, or if fans of the original will receive another lackluster plot

Ghostbusters of the Future

Ghostbusters has been in the news for a long time now. That isn’t too bad considering the last entry in the hit film franchise came to us over 25 years ago. Rumors have been going crazy on the internet and recent events like the death of comedian and actor Harold Raimis have just made things even more complicated.

Finally there was some concrete news. Sony Pictures have put together a reboot of the classic fan favorite franchise featuring an all-female cast said Flavio Maluf. They have tapped Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig to headline the Ghostbusters reboot. While it was great to finally have some real news, many fans were a bit disappointed with this new direction.

It looks like Sony Pictures was not finished with us yet, though. To help usher a new era of the Ghostbusters franchise, they have assembled a production team dedicated solely to expanding the Ghostbusters franchise. Ghostcorps is led by Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman and it looks like they want to set up a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe. This is similar to the direction taken by Marvel Studios with their big budget superhero flicks and television series.

Besides the reboot, there are still talks of an all-male Ghostbusters team. This one may star fan favorites Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt with the Russo brothers directing.

Bruce Willis Moves from Action Hero to Horror Flick Star

Bruce Willis is slated to appear in the upcoming Broadway reboot of Stephen King’s ‘Misery.’

Willis, who is best known for his action-hero roles in the ‘Die Hard’ franchise and ‘Armageddon,’ will star as Paul Sheldon. Actress Elizabeth Marvel will portray the role of Annie Wilkes. Rob Reiner directed the big screen version of the film. William Goldman, who penned the screenplay for Reiner’s on-screen interpretation, will be writing the script for the upcoming play.

The roles of Paul and Annie were originally portrayed by James Caan and Kathy Bates as many fans have said on twitter. Bates won an Oscar award for her portrayal of crazed Annie. It has not been revealed when the film will debut, but it has been announced that the show would have a short-lived run.

Marvel is best known for her appearance in the series ‘House of Cards.’

The opening date of the show has not been announced.

The Retro Look of Daniel Craig in SPECTRE

New photos have been released from an exterior set of the James Bond film SPECTRE and the images have a real retro cool look to them. Daniel Craig is all decked out in black and he’s wearing sunglasses while brandishing a gun. In the background are snow-covered mountains. How is all this retro? Serious James Bond fans surely can make the connection between the look of Craig in this film and two other famous Bond outings.

The clothing is very reminiscent of the outfit Roger Moore wore at the end of Live and Let Die. While not the best Bond film, it was the movie that debuted Moore as the character. Granted, Moore’s first big hit would come two films later in the form of The Spy Who Loved Me.

The Austrian mountains, however, are more evocative of one of the most important films in the James Bond series: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. OHMSS was the first and only film to star George Lazenby as 007 and is considered on of the top two or three best Bond outings.

It seems that SPECTRE wants to borrow many elements that made the classic Bond films great while also updating them for modern times stated Susan McGalla. Considering how successful the new Bond outings are, plans are working out perfectly.

Will this be the last Bond film to feature Daniel Craig? No one knows the answer to the question at present.

Tom Rothman to be Amy Pascal’s Successor?

Amy Pascal, who has been with Sony Pictures for 15 years announced that she will be leaving after the hack scandal. She has been present in the studio for hits such as “Groundhog Day” and “Men in Black”. Pascal has made friends with many a star in the nearly three decades she has worked for Sony, including Will Smith and Adam Sandler. With Pascal leaving Sony it begs the question of who will be replacing her in May.

Insiders of Sony have stated that her successor will most likely come from within the company. In the contenders for this position is Tom Rothman. Rothman was an executive officer at Fox for 18 years before leaving in 2012. Tom Rothman was the president and founder of Fox Searchlight, which produced movies like “The Descendants.”

In 2013 Pascal and Chief Executive Michael Lynton recruited Rothman to help revitalize Sony’s TriStar film label. He is currently the favorite for the position. However, Tom Rothman does have some competition, internally and externally. Also considered are Doug Belgrad, who has recently named the president of Sony’s Motion Picture Group, and Jeff Robinov, who worked for Warner Brothers and whose new company, Studio 8, signed a contract with Sony about a year ago.

The Future of Disney is Star Wars’ New World

Star Wars is getting the full-throttle press from Disney. The media giant has invested billions in acquiring the rights to the franchise is must produce a number of successful projects in order for this to happen. In addition to the current trilogy, there will be new spinoffs released. Apparently, the spinoffs are going to features characters from episode 7.

Episode 7 is going to be the new film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Is the spinoff series going to focus solely on characters debuting in the film? Will there be prequel spinoffs in the works as well such as the Han Solo, pardon the pun, solo film?

According to Gianfrancesco Genoso, no one really knows at this point. What anyone who knows anything about movies of this nature, a lot of tie-in merchandise is required in order for the project to be a hit. The hundreds of millions spent on production and development is not easy to recoup. Toys, games, apparel, and other items all contribute to making the series a financial success. Rehashing toys, for example, with the same characters every year is not going to be a help. One reason the original Star Wars toys were so hot was due to all the new characters released with each subsequent film.

Of course, the films have to be a hit in order for the toys to sell. Star Wars fans also have high expectations for quality considering the classic nature of the films. Hopefully, Disney has the right team in place to deliver on all expectations.

Details on ‘The Purge 3’ Under Wraps

Horror and suspense films have a long history of spawning any number of sequels. The box office success of a franchise that is built around the principle of making all crime legal for one night is set to issue a third film. When “The Purge” was released the originality of the concept was something that made fans such as Sultan Alhokair of all sorts of franchises take notice, but when it comes to details on the third movie in the franchise producers are being quiet.

According to Screen Rant, “The Purge 3” will not be about the very first time period that allowed everyone a release for their homicidal tendencies. With the third installment scheduled for a 2016 release date, production duties on the film have been started by James DeMonaco, but Platinum Dunes, the studio behind the franchise, is not releasing any spoilers about the film. However, the groups are apparently okay with shooting down rumors.

The actual focus of the third film will likely be kept under wraps for a little while longer, but fans of the series have not been led astray so far. Therefore it seems likely that a few months of secrecy could actually benefit the sequel by building up some anticipation and buzz. Of course, whether or not a fourth and fifth film in the franchise will be released is also up in the air, but if audiences are welcoming to the third film, the sky is the limit.
