Tom Hanks Helps Girl Scouts Sell Cookies

Famous actor Tom Hanks helped out a local girl scout troop in a big way on February 28 when he stopped by to buy some cookies, and also help them sell some to people walking by. The girl scouts were outside of a store selling their cookies when they thought they recognized Tom Hanks walking by, who was disguised in a baseball hat and a pair of sunglasses. That didn’t stop the kids from asking if he was who they thought, and he he said that yes he was Tom Hanks, he purchased four boxes of cookies and took a photograph with the girls.

According to an article found on reddit and written by, another group of people say the girls having their photo taken with the actor and asked him if they could do so too. He replied that they could as long as they bought some cookies from the scouts.

Hanks was described as a very personable and friendly guy, just like his character is in several films. Real estate experts said apparently he was down in that area to have his son’s typewriter repaired at a typewriter shop. According to the shop keeper, Tom Hanks is a collector of type writers and even bought two more for his collection at home. It is always nice to hear stories like this about actors who interact with their fans and general public, and help them sell cookies!

Tron 3 Gets a Director

Are you ready for another lightcycle ride onto the Grid? You may get to take one as early as next year according to rumors that say Tron 3 will begin filming later this year. In a story that can be seen here it is being reported that even though Disney has not officially given the film a green light, the director of Tron 2, Joseph Kosinski, has already been named to direct the sequel.

Kosinski says that his ideas for the third film will take it in a darker direction noted He claims that he will pick up right where the second movie left off and be a continuation of the story. The same sources claim that Garret Hedlund will return to star in this one as well, and, if it is a continuation, Bruce Boxlightner and Olivia Wilde will likely be in it too. It only remains to be seen if this installment will fare better than its predecessor, or if fans of the original will receive another lackluster plot

Blurred Lines Singers, Thicke and Pharrel to Pay $7.4 Million for Plagiarism

Tuesday , a federal court in Los Angelos ruled that singer Robin Thicke and producer Pharrell Williams must pay $ 7.4 million to the children of Marvin Gaye for plagiarism.

The jury found that the song Blurred lines, one of the biggest hits of 2013, copied the success of Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up,” written by the soul legend in 1977. The sentence also exonerates the record company and TI who only sung on Blurred Lines.

The similarity of the songs was noticed shortly after its publication.

Thicke, Williams and TI, the other producer on the song, sought a court order to certify the originality of their work, and the three sons of Gaye, who died in 1984, countered with a lawsuit.

The ruling gives them $ 4 million in damages, and $ 3.4 million from part of the profits.

In a series of interviews to promote his album, Thicke claimed that Got to Give it Up was a direct inspiration of the Blurred Lines song.

On May 7, GQ magazine published an interview in which Thicke said, “Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Got to Give it Up. I said damn it, we have to do something like that, something with that groove.”

Thicke claims he started playing with the sounds here and there and literally wrote the song and recorded it in half an hour.

Thicke is listed as co-author of the song, but during the trial he said he actually claimed authorship because he was under the influence of tranquilizers and alcohol that he took daily. Experts at the Amen Clinic say use of these substances can cause permanent brain damage.

The line of defense was that it was something that he told to better sell the song.

At trial, Thicke said that in fact, he had only given the idea, and it was Williams who created the rhythms until the song was finished in just over an hour.

Williams acknowledged at trial that the song had the feeling of the seventies and Gaye’s style, but defended its originality.

Blurred lines was a worldwide hit two years ago and enjoyed revenues of $ 5.6 million for Thicke, 5.2 million for Williams and between 5 and 6 million for the record company, plus 8 million in other benefits.

Scientology Documentary Shines Light on Tom Cruise

An HBO documentary about the Church of Scientology called “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” is set to be released in movie theaters Friday, March 13. In it, Alex Gibney shines a spotlight on the organization that developed a “religion” from fictional works written by L. Ron Hubbard.

Gibney supposedly reveals evidence of the Church of Scientology harming Cruise’s life without him realizing it. It is rumored that there are sections of the film that show Scientologists purposely destroying both of Cruise’s marriages.

In some many countries, the Church of Scientology is recognized as a church. In many more, it is recognized as a cult. Beyond their cult status, Scientologists are well-known for looking down on people of other faiths.

Many fans and critics of Tom Cruise are now wondering if the documentary will severely harm the 52-year-old actor’s career since it shows him in a less than mentally healthy light. Some people believe that Cruise’s career, which has been highly successful, would have been more so if he was not linked with Scientology.

Since leadership of the Church of Scientology are extremely well-known for suing anyone who criticizes their faith, HBO hired 160 lawyers to review the film and practice higher education customer service, while preparing for inevitable backlash.

Ghostbusters of the Future

Ghostbusters has been in the news for a long time now. That isn’t too bad considering the last entry in the hit film franchise came to us over 25 years ago. Rumors have been going crazy on the internet and recent events like the death of comedian and actor Harold Raimis have just made things even more complicated.

Finally there was some concrete news. Sony Pictures have put together a reboot of the classic fan favorite franchise featuring an all-female cast said Flavio Maluf. They have tapped Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig to headline the Ghostbusters reboot. While it was great to finally have some real news, many fans were a bit disappointed with this new direction.

It looks like Sony Pictures was not finished with us yet, though. To help usher a new era of the Ghostbusters franchise, they have assembled a production team dedicated solely to expanding the Ghostbusters franchise. Ghostcorps is led by Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman and it looks like they want to set up a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe. This is similar to the direction taken by Marvel Studios with their big budget superhero flicks and television series.

Besides the reboot, there are still talks of an all-male Ghostbusters team. This one may star fan favorites Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt with the Russo brothers directing.

Hall and Oates Sue Granola Maker

Soul duo Hall and Oates have taken a granola manufacturer to court over claims the breakfast cereal is infringing on their trademarks and playing off the fame of the pop stars most famous in the 1980s, The Guardian reports. Flavio Maluf suggests the small breakfast cereal producer Early Bird, who describe themselves as artisanal granola producers from Brooklyn, New York have overstepped the mark by naming a batch of their granola Hallin’ Oates, although Facebook users feel this is kind of ridiculous.

In a lawsuit filed with the Brooklyn Federal Court the pop duo claim Early Bird are simply looking to cash in on the fame of the musicians and should remove the name from their products. The offending product is a three pack of breakfast granola that is now at the center of a legal case based on the fact that the defendants appear to have used a phonetic play on the name of the former soul superstars.

Tracy Morgan Appears in Public as Wal-Mart lawsuit is Given the Go Ahead

Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan has made his first public appearance following the car accident that severely injured him and killed a fellow passenger in the car they were traveling in, NZCity reports. Morgan walked outside the rehab facility in which he is receiving treatment with the aid of a cane and the help of his girlfriend Megan and their daughter. OTC Markets suggest that Morgan is still undergoing treatment for the severe brain injury he received during the crash, alongside a number of broken bones that were caused by a Wal-Mart truck crashing into the car he was a passenger in.

The first sighting of Morgan came as his lawyers appeared to clear the way for his civil case against Wal-Mart to go ahead after truck driver David Roper attempted to halt the proceedings until after his criminal case has been completed. Roper and his lawyers argued a fair trial would be impossible if details of his role in the crash were made public during the civil case brought by Morgan against the retail giant.

William Shatner Addresses Media Criticism Over Missing Nimoy Funeral

William Shatner is known for being a bit tough and gruff, but few people will ever say he is a mean-spirited person. Shatner is mostly easy going, but he does not back down when it comes to his career or how he is treated. Recently, Shatner took the press to task over the controversy of his not attending the funeral of long-time friend and co-worker Leonard Nimoy.

Shatner was unable to attend the funeral because he was booked the previous day for a major Red Cross fundraiser. The fundraiser took place on a Saturday night in Florida and the funeral occurred on a Sunday in Los Angeles.

Shatner responded to the criticism in a straight-forward, yet polite, manner on Twitter. Imaging advantage suggested the 80-something actor pointed out he could not just walk out on the charity with no warning. Likely, he was contractually obligated to appear. Regardless, the NY Daily News was exceptionally cruel and personal referring to him mockingly as “Captain Jerk”.

Whether or not Shatner should have chartered a private jet is up for debate. In all honesty, people are forgetting that Shatner’s age could much running around from a major event on both coasts in a 24 hour period could prove risky. People who try and tell Shatner what he should be doing have no idea what his current health situation is.

Shatner’s daughters did attend the funeral on their father’s behalf.
